Frequently asked questions about third-party coverage for moped insurance

What exactly does third-party coverage for moped insurance entail?

This is the cheapest of the four forms of insurance for mopeds. Everyone who has a vehicle in their name is also required to carry at least third-party liability (TPL) insurance. Often this insurance offers too limited coverage. This is because damage to your moped will not be reimbursed from this insurance.

Why do you take out third-party moped insurance?

First, of course, because this insurance is mandatory, but the insurance also provides good protection for yourself. If you cause a personal injury, the damages to the other party can run into the hundreds of thousands of euros. Just imagine hitting a 25-year-old who becomes permanently disabled. Who will ensure that the injured party receives an income until retirement? Without motor vehicle liability insurance, you can go bankrupt because of one steering error. After all, the financial burden is impossible to bear.

Who insures the moped?

The obligation rests with whoever has the moped in their name. If you buy the moped and put it in your name and a friend rides it, you are still the one who has to take care of the insurance. It is permissible to note on the insurance policy that someone else is the regular driver. As long as the license plate is in your name, the moped should also be insured.

When can you claim on moped insurance?

The insurance provides coverage against damages for which you are legally liable. Therefore, you can never claim damages to you or your moped on the third-party insurance. You cannot be liable for damage to yourself or your property. In case of a claim, an excess may be due. This is the part of the damage that is for your own account. Claiming damage on the moped insurance may be at the expense of your claim-free years. This can result in an increase of the premium in the next insurance year.

When to choose WA moped insurance?

This form of insurance is often chosen for older mopeds with only a low daily value. In the event of an accident, you will not be paid for your own damages. In case of theft or a collision, you have to pay for the replacement or repair of your vehicle yourself. Are you unwilling or unable to do that? Then choose one of the three extended cover options.
