Delivery moped insurance
Insuring a delivery moped can be quite difficult. This is because of the risk involved for an insurance company. Many miles are driven with a delivery moped, often under time constraints. As a result, driving is usually faster and more likely to result in damage. Many insurers therefore do not want to insure a delivery moped. Via Alpina.nl it is fortunately possible to insure a delivery moped. With us, you can always get cheap third-party insurance for your delivery moped!
Why insure a delivery moped?
You are required to have third-party insurance for all motor vehicles. This includes (delivery) mopeds. With third-party insurance you are insured for damage you cause to others. Did you accidentally drive your delivery moped into a parked car? Your third-party insurance ensures that you are covered for this. Therefore, it is important to always insure your delivery moped. For a delivery moped, it is only possible to take out third-party insurance. So you cannot take out third-party limited liability or third-party full collision insurance for a delivery moped.
Delivery moped insurance: for whom?
Delivery moped insurance is for anyone who has a moped for delivering things. When insuring a delivery moped, you have to choose from two types of use: "delivery of meals" and "other use. Do you have a delivery moped for delivering things like pizza, sushi or other types of food? Then of course you choose 'delivery of meals'. Do you use your delivery moped to deliver packages or flowers, for example? Then you choose 'other use'. Both variants have a fixed premium and a deductible for third-party damage.
Am I insured even if I drive privately?
Do you sometimes use your delivery moped privately as well? Then you are insured as usual with your business moped insurance. This does not apply the other way around: if you indicate when you take out moped insurance that you use the moped privately, but then use it for business purposes and incur damage, you are not insured. The issue here is the level of risk: a moped that you use for business involves more risk. That's why you need separate insurance for it.
Why is insuring a delivery moped tricky?
Insuring a delivery moped carries a lot of risk for an insurer. In early 2019, figures from De Vereende revealed that drivers of delivery mopeds are almost six times more likely to make claims than drivers of private mopeds. In addition, the damage amount is also 75 percent higher. Many insurers consider the risk too high and therefore will not want to provide moped insurance for a delivery moped.
Fortunately, you can always insure your moped with insurance company De Vereende. De Vereende was specially founded for insuring special risks. They have a broader acceptance policy and therefore accept in principle any insurance application. This is subject to a number of conditions, such as a higher premium and a deposit. Also, you must pay three months of premium in advance.
